'How you drive, is How you Arrive' - The Teaching Reflection Series - Part 2

They say that it's not how you drive, it's how you arrive. For teaching contexts though, I beg to differ. How one arrives in achieving a target objective is equally important as the results produced by the learners. Thus, as teachers we utilize different strategies in order to attain that particular standardized measure for the learners. Let me share what happened during the second day of our demo teaching.

Strategies to develop Critical Thinking

The use of a debate which entails critical-thinking and mastery of a specific topic can contribute greatly to the learners’ aforementioned skill since one has to evaluate and identify the information they are researching as well as processing the ideas presented in order to come up with an in-depth answer. Furthermore, a discourse with other people can also further develop one’s not only public speaking skills but how they communicate their ideas in a concise and clear manner.

A Handy Tool for the Learners (Effective Instructional Materials)

The one that the last presenter used which is having worksheets for students to work on during class while discussing the text. Learners are able to see the poem, analyze it deeply and be guided in order to achieve the target learning outcomes. Reading worksheets are always helpful since learners writing can help retain what they have learned by putting it down on a piece of writing material (and true enough to my experience, I learn by writing).

The Best Processing Methods

Teacher Juneeque (Group 10) did the best job in processing the activities because there is integration of the literary text which is the meat of the discussion. Our group, the public speaking could’ve done, as Professor mentioned, with building up the debate by maybe asking questions like “If you were the girl, would you proceed with the operation?” and so on and so forth but Juneeque did a great job at processing the activities by having the writing activities hand-in-hand with discussing the text making it so that the learners are guided with the lesson at hand and the learners are also able to comprehend the reading material significantly.
