My food experience at this hotspot in Manila
My visit to this place down Beaterio Street in Intramuros Manila was on a whim; my mother’s friend invited us to join them for dinner and we just went since we did not have much to do during that day. It was a nice ride going there since it was a Sunday but that’s not the part you are waiting for, right?
What’s the best part about La Cathedral Café? It’s the food!
Yep! La Cathedral Café has a little bit of everything that you can ask for. When we went there, we mostly ordered the main courses available such as,
Classic Spaghetti
One of the most well-known Italian dishes, La Cathedral’s take on this classic dish was done well. The tomato used on the spaghetti was done greatly and topped with cheese and basil. I just took a taste of it but my sister was the one who ate the dish. The balance of the dish was great, nothing is too overpowering. Overall, this take on the classic Italian dish was done well.
Chicken Alfredo Pasta
The creaminess and delightfulness I have tasted in this pasta, the Chicken Alfredo just melts right in your mouth. It is very smooth, very creamy, it’s delicious and dip the garlic bread in its sauce (ooh!) it is a staple done beautifully.
Fried Chicken Wings with Grilled Corn, Chili Flakes & Lettuce
Chicken is my favorite protein, so I am critical about this one. The cook on the chicken, the skin is crispy, seasoned well and the sprinkled chili flakes adds a new layer and kick when eating the wings. The grilled corn and spring onion help balance out and neutralize a bit of the spice which makes the dish a well-balanced one. Overall, I’d say, it’s a solid meal worth paying for.
Bacon and Cheese Nachos
This appetizer, the Nachos, that we ordered compared to nacho chips that I usually eat from other cafe/restaurants, were usually greasy, and is not crunchy but this one is really the opposite. It has good flavor combination. The beef, diced tomatoes and topped with cheese, and the crunchiness is so perfect and I highly recommend this one for those who wants to hang out here in this café.
Shrimp Pasta with Mussels & Clams
This Seafood pasta is the next thing I will order again come my next visit to this cafe. The shrimp and the rest of the seafood aside from being big it tastes so great! A must try! The shrimp is well-seasoned, the mussels & clams taste fresh and I like the color combination of the dish. There is something about its smell (similar to the next entrée we will be talking about) that makes this an appealing and tasty meal. I have to remind myself to have this one if I ever come back to the café.
Spanish Sardines Pasta
This is what my mom ordered and I was surprised that such dish exists (pardon my ignorance). I like the color combination of this meal and the saltiness of the sardines goes well with the freshness of the cherry tomatoes, it balances the dish out and the freshness that the lemon fruit produces once you squeezed it and it creates a delightful fragrance. This dish spells ‘TASTY’! I would definitely try this one again.
What do I think of this place?
Most of the food taste delicious for its price and the ratio of the serving to the cost is justifiable. It may look small but it is just how this kind of meals are cooked (they are compact). The food is something that I look forward to, as no matter how aesthetically pleasing to the eyes the place is, if the food is not up to par, the place will be easily forgotten. I would give it f I were to rate their meals, an impressive 5 out of 5.
The aesthetics of the place has a vintage vibe to it, with its location being near the historical landmarks in the Philippines at Intramuros, and with the café being located on a rooftop behind the famous Manila Cathedral. The place is always jampacked so it is recommended that you make a reservation before-hand if you do not want to trouble yourself in the waiting line. The outdoor setting creates a relaxing cityscape atmosphere (especially at night with the lights turned on) with the combination of a classy and vintage vibe to this outdoor café. Overall, I’d say, this place is a solid 5 out of 5!
Will I come back? If I have the chance, I definitely would with my friends. This place speaks elegance and if you want that vintage vibe with delicious food, this is the place to go. Try La Cathedral Café now!
